My Story
Fariba Jafari-Ketabi
I have been painting for over 40 years, a passion rooted in my childhood in Iran. I formally studied ceramics, fine arts and traditional Persian techniques before moving to the United States to eventually receive my BA in Fine Art and MA in Textile Design from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. While my earlier works were oil and pastel, I was always fascinated by watercolor, how flowy, transparent and effortless it seemed. I didn’t pursue this gratifying medium until well after university, when friends and fellow artists encouraged me to start experimenting with watercolor. Years later, I am still learning and I love what I do, sometimes using innovative techniques such as watercolor pencils or markers or mixing colors right on paper. When I paint, I can sit for hours and easily lose track of time, listening to classical music or stories. Painting brings me peace. I get my inspiration from the natural world, botanical books, photography, as well as my travels to other countries. My paintings have been displayed in local theaters, cafes, libraries, and art festivals. For more information about my work, please contact me at:
